Houghton Beach Water Closed for Bacteria Concerns

πŸ”Š Listen Β· narrated by Aiden

As of 3:50 p.m. Sept. 9, Public Health – Seattle & King County recommends people and pets stay out of the water at Houghton Beach Park's swimming areas for at least one week due to elevated bacteria levels.

King County Water and Land Resources Division staff tested water samples and found bacteria levels exceeded safe thresholds. Signs will be placed to mark the closure, though the rest of the beach remains open. King County crews will retest next week.

Residents can check King County's Lake Swimming Beach Data webpage for updates on closures and reopenings. The city will post further information on its website.
