Houghton and Juanita Beaches Closed for Swimming

🔊 Listen · narrated by Aiden

As of 4 p.m. on August 18, 2026, Public Health – Seattle & King County has recommended that people and pets avoid the water at Houghton Beach Park and Juanita Beach Park for at least one week.

Water quality staff from the King County Water and Land Resources Division found bacteria levels exceeding safe thresholds in recent samples. Signs will be posted at the beaches to indicate the closure. The rest of both parks remains open. King County crews will return next week to collect additional samples.

Residents are directed to King County’s Lake Swimming Beach Data webpage for updates on beach closures and reopenings.
