Kirkland Police Department's ProAct Unit arrested a suspect in a regional organized retail theft investigation involving an estimated $500,000 in stolen merchandise, including fragrances, from stores across multiple jurisdictions including Kirkland. The arrest followed a months-long investigation conducted with regional loss prevention professionals and law enforcement agencies.
On July 16, detectives served a search warrant at the suspect's Kent residence. The suspect attempted to flee from a second-story window but was apprehended without injury to either party. Detectives recovered additional evidence during the search. The suspect remains in custody at King County Jail with $255,000 bail. Charges of Organized Retail Theft in the First Degree are being forwarded to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
Police Chief Mike St. Jean emphasized that organized retail theft impacts businesses, employees, customers, and the community. The ProAct Unit, established after Kirkland voters approved Proposition 1, focuses on disrupting prolific offenders through intelligence-led investigations and regional partnerships.
