WSDOT announced multiple lane reductions and closures for construction and maintenance on several Washington state highways beginning August 24, 2026.
SR 9 will have single-lane traffic with alternating signals near Kalloch Road (MP 59) through September 14 for fish passage construction. On SR 9 near Mount Vernon Big Lake Road (MP 49), traffic will alternate daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays through September 3. I-5 will have three northbound lanes closed nightly from August 24 to 26 between SR 526 and Lowell Road for maintenance. I-405 will have rolling slowdowns nightly and lane closures for utility work through August 26.
The closures impact commuters and local traffic on major routes through the region. WSDOT advises drivers to expect delays and plan accordingly. All closures are scheduled to end by early September with the exception of the SR 9 fish passage project, which continues through September 14.
